The
Health Development Initiative is an independent,
local non-governmental and non-profit making
membership organization that brings together young
Medical doctors and other professionals interested
in promoting Health and development by narrowing the
gap between the population and health professionals.
HDI is an
initiative by Rwandese young men and women who got involved in the aftermath of
the 1994 Genocide to try and heal lives of the wounded survivors, an experience
that inspired them to do medicine in university and become doctors. The same
spirit drove them to do volunteer medical service to the disadvantaged
communities thus making them form themselves in to an organized institution of
HDI, with the mission of empowering communities with knowledge and skills in
public and primary health such that they can be in position to lead healthy
lives and prevent the out break of diseases that could otherwise be prevented.
Our Mission
The mission is to promote health, community- based
development that builds on alliances and networking,
education and poverty reduction.
Our Vision
A Healthy society where
medical care is accessible and preventable diseases
no longer a problem
Membership
The HDI membership represents the multiple and
diverse stakeholders in healthcare and development who are eager to serve the disadvantaged communities and change their lives.
